Today is the day.
After sixteen years of writing, wondering, listening, resisting, surrendering, and occasionally being spiritually nagged by fictional characters who clearly have no respect for my sleep schedule, A Warrior’s Heart: The Promise is officially here.
When I first woke from a dream that introduced me to Master Akio and Graham Alexander Connelly, I believed I was being given the beginning of a single story.
I was wrong.
That dream became A Warrior’s Heart: The Awakening, followed by Perseverance and Convocation. When I completed the trilogy in 2015, I genuinely believed the journey had ended.
Apparently, Master Akio had other plans.
After eight years of silence, the characters returned in July 2023 with a simple and unmistakable message:
“We’re not done.”
And they were right.
A Long-Awaited Return
A Warrior’s Heart: The Promise continues the journey of Graham, Master Akio, and the remarkable family that has grown around the Shin Dao Academy.
This is not simply another adventure.
It is a story about legacy.
It is about what remains after loss, what is rebuilt after destruction, and what happens when the teachings we have received must be carried forward by our own hands and hearts.
Graham is no longer the bitter, overweight, angry man who first returned to Inspiration Island searching for answers. He is now a husband, a father, a teacher, and the master of a school built upon courage, discipline, love, and the Way of the Heart.
Yet becoming a master does not mean the lessons stop.
Life continues to test him.
The school faces unexpected challenges. Old grief rises again. New responsibilities arrive. The next generation begins to discover who they are and what they may be called to carry.
And through it all, Graham must confront one of the greatest questions any teacher, leader, parent, or spiritual warrior will ever face:
How do we honour the past without forcing the future to repeat it?
More Than a Story
At its heart, The Promise is about family, friendship, forgiveness, courage, purpose, and the quiet spiritual wisdom found in ordinary moments.
It is about learning that strength is not simply the ability to fight.
Sometimes strength means staying.
Sometimes it means listening.
Sometimes it means rebuilding.
Sometimes it means letting the people we love choose their own path.
And sometimes the greatest promise we make is not spoken to another person.
It is the promise we make to become the person we were always meant to be.
To the Readers Who Never Gave Up
To everyone who read the original books, wrote to me, encouraged me, and occasionally asked—politely or otherwise—when the next book was coming, thank you.
Your love for these characters never faded.
Your belief in the story helped bring them back.
This book exists because the journey still mattered to you.
And, as it turns out, it still mattered deeply to me.
Today, I am honoured, grateful, excited, and perhaps just a little relieved to finally say:
The wait is over.
A Warrior’s Heart: The Promise is now available.
