By L. Neil Thrussell, also writing as Nathaniel Theos
I’ve been having a little fun lately.
Okay, maybe more than a little!
I’ve been exploring a different side of my writing, creating short stories that take readers into worlds of adventure, mystery, suspense, laughter, heartbreak, and occasionally the downright unexpected.
And I’m excited to announce that 18 short stories are now available to read for FREE on my website!

Two Names. Two Styles. Plenty of Stories.
If you’ve followed my writing journey, you’ll know me as L. Neil Thrussell, author of spiritual and inspirational fiction. I love stories that explore the human heart, meaningful connections, personal growth, and the extraordinary moments hidden within ordinary lives.
But I also write under another name.
Nathaniel Theos.
Nathaniel allows me to venture into darker territory, historical fiction, thrillers, mysteries, survival stories, and sometimes the uncomfortable corners of human nature.
Between the two of us, my imagination has been getting quite the workout!
A Little Something for Everyone
The beauty of short stories is that you can step into an entirely different world without committing to a 400-page novel.
Have fifteen or twenty minutes? Perfect!
You might find yourself:
- Laughing at a group of rebellious seniors running a dessert mafia in The Grey Army.
- Discovering the power of brotherhood and human connection in The Pack.
- Exploring kindness and compassion in The Next Kind Thing.
- Facing a life-and-death decision in a future where healthcare comes with a lifetime spending limit in Insufficient Funds.
- Walking past a haunted cemetery on Halloween night in The Dogs of Hollow Creek Cemetery.
- Following a story of courage, survival, or revenge where the line between right and wrong isn’t always clear.
Some stories might make you smile. Others might bring a tear to your eye. A few may leave you staring at the final paragraph, wondering what you would have done.
That’s what I love about storytelling.
A good story doesn’t have to be long to leave a lasting impression.
A Creative Partnership with AI
There’s something else a little different about this collection.
These stories have been created with the assistance of artificial intelligence.
I bring the ideas, characters, emotional direction, imagination, and final creative decisions. AI becomes a collaborative writing partner, helping me explore possibilities, refine the writing, and create cover artwork.
I don’t see AI as replacing the storyteller. I see it as another tool in the creative toolbox.
And like any good tool, what matters is the heart, intention, and imagination of the person using it.
For me, the goal remains unchanged.
Tell stories worth reading.
Two Ways to Enjoy the Stories
I’ve decided to share these stories in two different ways, depending on how you like to read.
1. My Website: New Stories as They’re Written
My website is home to the complete and growing collection.
As I write and finish new short stories, I’ll add them to the website. There won’t be a fixed release schedule.
When a story is ready, it’s ready!
That means you can visit anytime and potentially discover something new.
Each story is available to read online or download as a PDF, making it easy to enjoy whenever and wherever you like.

2. AI Story Forge: A New Story Every Week
For those who enjoy having something new to look forward to each week, I’ve also created a Facebook community called AI Story Forge.
Every week, I’ll share a short story with the group.
It’s an opportunity to discover new characters, explore different genres, and enjoy a little literary adventure on a regular basis.
The stories may already be available on my website, but AI Story Forge will introduce them to the Facebook community one week at a time.
I also hope it becomes a place for conversations about storytelling, creativity, and the possibilities of combining human imagination with AI.

Why Short Stories?
I’ve written full-length novels, and I love the opportunity they provide to develop characters, build worlds, and take readers on long, meaningful journeys.
But short stories offer something different.
They challenge me to create an emotional connection in a much smaller space.
To make you care about a character you’ve only just met.
To place you in a situation that challenges your thinking.
To make you laugh, cry, or question something about yourself, all within a few thousand words.
And perhaps my favourite part?
They allow me to follow an idea simply because it intrigues me.
I don’t have to commit the next six months to developing it into a novel.
I can explore it, write it, and share it.
Then move on to the next wild idea that wanders into my imagination.
And trust me, there are plenty of those!
18 Stories and Counting!
The collection currently stands at 18 short stories, and I have no intention of stopping there.
Some will be heartfelt. Some will be dark. Some will be funny. Some may even make you a little uncomfortable.
But every one of them will begin with the same simple question:
What if…?
That’s where the magic of storytelling begins.
And apparently, retirement hasn’t done much to slow down my imagination!
Come Along for the Adventure
Whether you’ve followed my writing for years or are just discovering my work, I’d love for you to explore the collection.
Read a story. Share one with a friend. Tell me which ones resonate with you.
And if you’d like a new story delivered to your Facebook feed each week, come join us at AI Story Forge.
After all, storytelling isn’t just about the words on the page.
It’s about the connection created between the writer and the reader.
And that connection is what keeps me writing.
Happy reading!
